Kabelo Molamodi, is a young and ambitious learner from Ramatema Secondary School. He is Blazing the Trail through digital solutions for his school.
As a part of a session where learners in the Trailblazer+ program identify gaps and issues in their schools that they would like to address or work on, Kabelo identified the need to showcase their schools’ work and tell their own stories. He started a Facebook page for the Trailblazer+ program at his school. The social media page was created to showcase everything that’s being done at his school. He documents and takes pictures of their Trailblazer+ activities at his school and posts them on the Facebook page. The page currently has over 200 likes and followers.
Through this initiative and social media activity, more exposure is given to the school and works to keep people, learners, and teachers, updated about the activities that are taking place.
Using this social media platform, they were able to reach, nurture, and engage with their peers. Kabelo also states that they could reach their peers who dropped out of school and encourage them to reconsider returning. He hopes that they can also use this platform to generate awareness about other issues that affect his peers.
This initiative is important for raising awareness and engagement within the school and encouraging young people to stay in school, which feeds well into our NEET prevention efforts.
Well done to Kabelo and his fellow club members for staying ahead of the digital trends and working to address a social issue closest to them!
