enke Leadership Co-Author Chapter in Youth Development Book

enke’s CEO, Rufaro Mudimu, and Head of Programs, Skhumbuzo Moodaley-Mpisane co-authored a chapter in a collaborative, peer-reviewed research volume, “Youth in South Africa: Agency, (in)visibility and national development” published by the Mapubungwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA).

“Youth in South Africa: Agency, (in)visibility and national development” seeks to chart a way forward that re-imagines the role of young people and makes the case for policy instruments to be informed by the lived experiences of the youth. This publication takes stock of the SA’s development as it affects young people, and brings together the work of researchers, practitioners and activists, many of whom are young people themselves. The authors offer both personal and professional insights into the ways in which the youth navigate their own pathways to adulthood.”

Skhumbuzo and Rufaro’s chapter, “Youth and development: The significance of ‘youth moments’” is the second chapter in the book and explores the impact of youth moments on development and investigates how we can draw lessons from youth involvement. Their core assertion is that young people’s actions contribute substantially to necessary policy changes, political changes and societal changes to advance development. Therefore, youth actions should be taken seriously.

The book is available for purchase at various local bookstores, or directly from Jacana Media (www.jacana.co.za) or MISTRA (www.mistra.org.za).
