Keep a Girl Child at Mphengwa High School

A group of Trailblazer+ program participants from Mphengwa High School formed a club called “Keep a Girl Child at School” to address the issue of the lack of access to sanitary products for female learners.

Most school-going girls of menstrual age do not have access to sanitary products and are forced to use materials like toilet paper, old clothes, etc for them to be able to attend school. They are either forced to endure this humiliation or be absent from school, for the brave girls who want to remain in school and build a bright future.

Sanitary towels/Pad Drive

Keep a Girl Child at School started a sanitary pad campaign/Pad Drive to lend a helping hand to those who need it. They started by asking for donations in a form of pads or money from fellow learners, teachers and people from the villagers/ local businesses.

For the brave girls who want to remain in school and build a bright future, they are forced to suffer the indignity of using newspapers, used socks, and toilet paper in order to catch her menstrual flow. These crude materials are not only ineffective but also unhygienic and uncomfortable.

Keep a Girl Child at School is making a positive impact in their school, helping girls stay in class and build a brighter future.
