Job Opportunity: Business Development Intern

Overview 

enke: Make Your Mark seeks to appoint one (1) Business Development Intern, who will be working remotely with a Business Development team based at enke Headquarters in Johannesburg, Hurlingham Office park. 

The Business Development Intern at enke is a developmental role for someone with excellent organisation and communication skills, high levels of attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously.  Reporting to the Business Development Manager and working very closely with the entire Development team. The Business Development Intern will be responsible for multiple marketing and admin functions and will also be required to provide ad hoc support to the team as needed.  

This is a developmental role that will give extensive experience in Project administration and management, design, copywriting, marketing & communications and exposure to enke’s networks and may lead to future opportunities within the organisation. As an organisation that supports grassroots community development, candidates should ideally be able to communicate in English. 

Start date: Monday, 01 July 2026 (6-12-month internship)

Location: Johannesburg – 75% Hybrid (with some travel expected)

Outline of Responsibilities 

The enke Business Development Internship offers hands-on experience across multiple functions within the organisation. The intern will support strategic growth initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and operational efficiency while contributing to marketing and communications efforts. 

Business Development & Pipeline Support 

  • Assist in managing and updating the partnership and funding pipeline
  • Conduct research on potential partners, donors, and market opportunities  
  • Support proposal development, presentations, and partnership materials  
  • Track and maintain records of leads, engagements, and outcomes 

Stakeholder Management 

  • Support coordination of internal and external communications  
  • Assist in scheduling and preparing for stakeholder meetings and engagements 

Marketing  

  • Support digital marketing efforts, including social media strategy and content updates  
  • Assist in creating content such as blogs, newsletters, and social media posts  
  • Contribute to basic design and visual content development  
  • Help maintain and update marketing databases and communication platforms  
  • Support the planning and execution of campaigns and events 

Research & Data Support 

  • Conduct market and competitor research to inform business development strategy  
  • Collect, capture, and organise data for reporting and insights  
  • Assist with drafting reports, presentations, and briefs 

Ad hoc responsibilities 

  • Available to assist with other responsibilities to advance the organisation’s goals and mission 
  • Work with relevant enke: Make Your Mark departments to develop growth opportunities 
  • Provide other administrative support as needed 
 Qualifications and Experience Requirements 
  • Tertiary education or currently studying (distance learning or part time) 
  • Have never held a full-time position before and preferably have not participated on a learnership or internship before. 
  • Live within 50 kms from our offices/site, which is situated at (Address). 
  • Are not currently full-time studies and able to attend this internship full-time. 
  • Are willing to be subjected to a credit and criminal check or any industry specific checks required for your job role. 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and ability to speak at least two other South African languages fluently. 
  • Evidence of active engagement within a university or community context (e.g. volunteering, membership in societies or positions of office or active engagement within your community or community projects) 
  • Excellent written communication skills, presentation skills and interpersonal skills 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel 
  • Experience using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp etc.) 
  • High personal standards and willingness to go beyond expectations 
  • High level of attention to detail 
  • Passion for working with young people, a pro-active energy and an outgoing personality will be most suitable for this role 
  • Ability to work independently as well as an integral member of a team 
  • Ability to work outside of office hours when required. Please note that due to the age-group of participants in our post-school programs, extensive evening and weekend work should be expected 
  • Valid driver’s license will be an advantage but not essential
